Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Watch Order Guide

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a show that manages to pull off suicidal jokes every few minutes without much repercussion because it shares the problems with Japanese culture relating to overwork and peer pressure in the form of nihilistic comedy. It nonchalantly criticizes everything about Japanese society without ever taking a single break. The jokes are so intelligently thought out that some are bound to go straight over the head, making this anime a hit or miss among the anime community.

Thanks to Studio SHAFT, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei also has a pretty unique animation style. The studio used its signature animation technique that shuffles between superb, shoddy, and just plain weird art style. Almost all of the characters in this anime are interesting, with each representing extreme versions of stereotypes for comedic purposes. The debates between characters over important and sometimes stupid topics is a brain fry but interesting nonetheless. Any fan of satire and black humor should definitely watch Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a dark comedy anime series adapted from the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Kouji Kumeta.

Synopsis: Nozomu Itoshiki is the most nihilistic person one could ever meet. The simplest hurdle in life can lead him to despair and suicide. Nozomu works as a teacher for a living, so he often shares his pessimistic views with his students. But some of his students are more strange than him, such as Kafuuka Fuura, a hyper-optimistic girl who is always smiling and is ready to offer positive solutions to Nozomu to point out where her positivity gets more eccentric than Nozomu’s negativity.
