The Irregular at Magic High School is more interesting than its title, and the synopsis makes it look. However, as the show is decidedly shounen, there’s a bit of a formula going into it. You have the badass earnest main protagonist, a slight hint of a harem, sub-characters who make for a more interesting add-up than the main character, for the most part, heavy incest undertones, and filler that somewhat dilutes the story.
The Irregular at Magic High School’s premise isn’t particularly novel, as magic has been common in anime since its inception as the primary genre. But, one of the big highlights of the series was the fight scenes with a good amount of hand-to-hand combat and magic fights. The Irregular at Magic High School manages to build a rich world full of lore and magic narrative type and has a more reasonable and grounded feel than other magic anime series.

The Irregular at Magic High School is an action fantasy anime series adapted from the web novel series of the same name written by Tsutomu Satou.
Synopsis: Magic exists as a systematized modern technology in the distant future, and the ability to use magic is determined by genetics. First High is a school where those with supernatural magic power are trained. However, the school divides its students into two courses: the first, called “Blooms,” is for prodigies, and the second, called “Weeds,” is for average students.
Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, siblings, are about to begin their first year at First High. However, as the school rules go, the flawless Miyuki is admitted to the Blooms, as she is viewed as one of the prodigies. While, her older brother, Tatsuya, joins Weeds, whose indifferent knowledge of magic and unique skills cause people to think of him as irregular.
