If I have to describe Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, I would say it is a basic battle shounen anime but with food. Like all the other shounen anime out there, Food Wars follows the same pattern of the main character fighting stronger opponents, losing to them, and returning to fight once again after some training.
You just ignore the patterns in the story and should focus on the animation. Because that’s what makes Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma special. The studio and the animators have put lots of effort into making the food shine. And the food tasting scenes, aka the foodgasm, are out of the world. I watched the anime for stunning food visuals and stayed for the foodgasms.
